About Attorney James H. Sandman

Attorney James H. Sandman received his B. A. from Penn State University in 1969 and his J. D. from Georgetown University in 1972. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1973. Attorney Sandman was admitted to practice before the Massachusetts District Court in 1973, the U.S. Tax Court in 1978. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1978.

Attorney Sandman first served as Assistant Executive Secretary of the Boston Bar Association from 1973-1975.  From 1975-1987, he was in private practice, first as a solo practioner, then as a partner in the firm of Sandman, Adler and Watson, both located in Newburyport, MA. From 1987-1994 he was associated with Wynn & Wynn in Boston, MA, concentrating exclusively on worker's compensation and social security disability matters. He returned to solo practice in Newburyport in 1994.

In addition to his full-time practice, Attorney Sandman has been an Adjunct Law Professor teaching worker's compensation law at The Massachusetts School of Law in Andover, MA, since 1995.

Among his accomplishments, Attorney Sandman was the first to try and win a second-hand-smoke worker's compensation case in Massachusetts. He was also the first to win a sick building syndrome case in Massachusetts.

Attorney Sandman has presented many lectures over the past 20 years on worker's compensation and has published several articles in his area of expertise, including:

  • "Sick Building Syndrome and Other Selected Occupational Illnesses," Mass. Continuing Legal Education, Inc. 92-17.03

Attorney Sandman has served as a Member of the Newburyport Planning Board (1978-1980) and was a Member of the Board of Editors, Massachusetts Lawyers' Weekly (1978-1980 and 1988-1989).

Professional association leadership positions include: Boston and Newburyport .(Vice President, 1972-1973; President, 1973-1975), Essex County (member, Executive Board, 1983-1985) and Massachusetts Bar Associations.

Attorney Sandman has three children, is a passionate photographer (see with numerous public exhibits to his credit from his travels both Stateside and abroad and is an avid SCUBA diver.
